E-mail as an element of site promotion. How much does it cost to promote on the Internet?

A website is a shy partner that passively waits for people to come to it. But email is the bold, active partner who goes out to where people are and invites them to meet her fiancé. Together, they make a great couple.

Email publishing is first and foremost a way to keep people who have shown interest in your business by visiting your website or responding to one of your offers. One of your website's top priorities should be to encourage a visitor to sign up for your free newsletter, discussion list or publishing updates. Offer a variety of incentives - entering a contest, a free gift, a free coupon - whatever you have to do to ensure a steady stream of subscribers to your newsletter. When they are ready to make a purchase, they will think of your site first, and they will probably buy from you. 

While some internet marketers focus on sending individual email adverts to their mailing lists, I shy away from this. With so much spam (junk email), it's too easy for recipients to mistake your promotion for just another ad and unsubscribe for good. While the occasional promotional email may be acceptable, your marketing messages in the context of news and useful information are far more effective and build loyalty that you can never gain by simply inundating your customers with adverts.
